G'day me maties. Sorry for the delay but I may have been a little overzealous when I said a daily post ;) So here's your weekender update. Sit back, relax and settle in with a cuppa...
Today is the official dry run of getting Ti to work on time using the public bus transport system - ironic considering that today is the first day we actually have a 'temporary' car at our disposal ;) - go figure. Truth be told, the 'dry run' was meant to happen on Friday but our early 'late' start (we can't get up before 8:30am without feeling like we been hit by a train) had us bucking the system and tapping into the convenience of the resources on hand (not making use of the public transport as intended) - thank you Shelley and Kevin! So, you guessed it, Friday turned out to be more of a 'what to do on a day off' as opposed to 'getting to the 'church' on time. But in the end we made it into the city - you just gotta LOVE the city!! The hustle and bustle of people, cars, buses, trains, tourists... it's incredibly exciting and like two kids in a candy store with more than just candy on offer, we got lost in wonder and amazement as we worked our way through the maize of the 'concrete' jungle and all things new. With so much variety and diversity on offer we could go from high street shopping (ok, ok more like browsing) to the tranquil waters edge where Sydney presents its two grandest landmarks where architecture meets Opera - the Sydney bridge and the Sydney Opera House. And even though we are no longer tourists, you cannot help but bring out the camera and capture the sights once again. Here's hoping that some things never change ;)
So, a great start to our first weekend, me thinks... The rest of the weekend was otherwise very laid back and leisurely with a taste of domestic chores that does not have us running to 'The Gap' just yet. We tried to take it easy and be more 'normal' than 'touristy'. However, we could not resist a Saturday afternoon stroll along the Manly beach promenade without tucking into 'ben & jerry's' - yummy - followed by a breakfast brunch at Dunes Cafe on Palm Beach on Sunday. I think it would be a mortal sin to be surrounded by such beauty and not make it part of your everyday routine. We wanted the opportunity to live differently and here it is - so we accept the responsibility to embrace our new surrounds and make the most of all that's on offer!
Through all our travels, Ti and I have a commonly used phrase that applies to destinations across the world (good or bad :) - 'OMW! I can't believe that people actually live like this'. Although difficult, its refreshing to realise that we are now 'those' people - living in a dream destination that forms part of many peeps' bucket lists!
Wish you were all here!

Love reading the updates and look forward to many more. Lived in Sydney (Bondi and Rosebay) for 9 months in 1995 and recognise some of the spots you have been to. Have fun :-) Michaela
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! Thanks Michaela xoxo
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm sure you could give me a few tips and tricks hey?
ReplyDeleteI am so glad this post arrived in my Tuesday morning mail, and not Yesterday, as the start to my week in comparison with your 'Utopia'is slightly unfair :)
ReplyDeleteAlas, we press on - I will be blogging a post in about two months from the realms of the Watts' Estate, where our 'Utopia' will finally exist. It has been stressfull, but will hopefully all be worth it. Your local 'hangouts' look gorgeous, am enjoying travelling through the eyes of Justine Saladineo.
I thought a Daily post would be a little ambitious, but I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt - tsk tsk, I should have known better ;)
Lots of love, Lynds
